Vincent “Bo” Jackson was born the eighth of ten children in Bessemer, Alabama. Jackson would attend McAdory High School in nearby McCalla where he would letter in football, baseball, and track. He was a two-time state champion in decathlon and set state records for indoor high jump and triple jump.
At Auburn, Jackson would once again letter in three sports. Jackson would dominate the football gridiron, baseball diamond, and track and field during his collegiate career. All three sports presented future, professional opportunities for the stud athlete.
It took the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lying about a trip to convince Jackson to focus on baseball following his 1985 senior football season. Jackson would be drafted twice in the NFL and three times in the MLB.
Jackson is often considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. A freak hip injury ended his NFL career in 1991. Jackson would continue to play baseball through the 1994 season.
Jackson started the “Bo Bikes Bama” fundraiser after the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that devastated Alabama. Each year, Jackson and countless other cyclists ride through Auburn and surrounding cities to raise funds for the Alabama overnor’s Emergecy Relief Fund.
